Camping...

We went camping at Indiana Dunes State Park.  Here is us in route.

The kids fell asleep on the way....not because it is far but because we stopped at my grandma's first.  I'm not sure why Theo covered his head with his blue blanket.  This is my grandma.

She is 93.  She lives alone.  Her mind and body are slowly going.  She is ready to die.  She has cleaned out all her attics and closets.  She can't stand all my children at once.  So I can only visit with another adult who can take the big kids outside. (Also you have to talk super loud looking right at her.)  Aaron took the kids for a walk and Theo found a stick.  Theo always finds sticks.  Everywhere we go you can count on Theo finding a stick and holding onto it.  Thankfully from a young age we have taught him that sticks live outside.  So we don't have to battle the can-I-bring-it-home battle.

Ok....so we went camping.  It was great.  We went camping with several other families.  So there were lots of children.  Our sites were right beside a playground and large sand area all shaded.  There were swings, which you probably know are super important to Wrigley.  (We were also close to water and a nice shower/bath house)  The Dunes were about a 15 minute walk away.  Sadly the first day there were biting flies.  But the other beach times were better.

We spent lots of time sitting and talking and playing cornhole(not sure what you call it where you're from)

Wrigley and Theo have bad reactions to mosquito bites.  We believe that is what happened here.

Sometimes when you are camping you find lots of acorns.  Then you realize that you should protect these acorns from the squirrels, so you put them in an empty gallon jug.  hmm...that doesn't feel safe enough so you fill it full of sand.  But just to be safe you curl up around it and fall asleep.  That is, if you are really tired.

And don't leave it alone while eating a smore.

Here are some random pics of Josie.  Camping her way.

She is starting to get her own look.  After she splashed in the dish pan, Theo wanted to also.
When we weren't look he took off his underwear.

This was a random camp moment.  We were cooking hobo meals.  They were amazing.  I'm on the other side of the fire holding Theo and Wrigley.  They were both having meltdowns.
In summary.  We went camping.  It was great.  We'd do it again.  While posting this I've eaten a package of graham crackers because I am super tired and that's what I do.

I love reading your posts...always fun and hilarious. Love the pic of Theo asleep on the chair. Glad you enjoyed the trip. I am not sure I'm ready for that kind of adventure yet. :)

this was a great update.

camping memories are the best.  hope you camp with benadryl - that's a mighty significant allergic reaction.  our kate gets those reactions too.  and our anna is the stick-finder-keeper.

josie looks simply delicious in the wash tub.  what a cutie-pie!

What a happy little camping trip. The nostalgic part of me is jealous. The part of me that hates bugs and being hot and cleaning dirty sandy kids is not jealous at all! Enjoy your graham crackers!

Miles will "sometimes" fall asleep in the car, too, but usually only if he has his blanket over his head. :) The camping trip looks like so much fun. Theo's swollen eye does not look like fun, but he was still smiling, so I guess it's ok? I swell up horribly with mosquito bites, too. I'm glad the trip went well enough that you'd do it again. :)
